$15,900 salvage purchase, now selling for $30k.

What the hell did they do to the door? Looks like one of those auto-show cutouts.

Estimated repair costs were $21k. Salvage link:

I’m pretty sure they cut the door either to work the latch, or to check to see if any damage was done to the impact bar. If the impact bar was straight, all they would need is a new door skin.

all that work and they didn’t have one pic of the engine. Or the underside. Or a registration. I bet they straightened that front clip instead of replacing it.

Too risky for me, even with a PPI.

I agree. The door skin was already damaged. If the interior was in good shape, why rip it out just to get to the latch mechanism? Just rip open the already damaged door skin.

Meh, I’d be fine with it for the right price. It’s not exactly easy to get a picture of a Boxter’s engine bay. Th e damage looks pretty minimal, and nowhere near the engine bay.

They let you do that to salvage car before you buy it? Seems odd but maybe that’s the norm.

The salvage ad listed the car as drivable, so maybe the car was del ivered to the lot without a key and they called a dealer to program a new key?  That’s the only scenario I can think of, not sure how likely it is.

The open rear trunk was either out of alignment , or maybe it was just popped open...but that was another pic that concerned me.

V6?

Also $15k + $21K = $36K?  Lotta work to lose $6K

The car most likely was at a body shop getting an estimate before the insurance company paid it off and sent it to auction. The body shop could’ve opened up the door.

21K repair would possibly be a high end retail estimate. Shop’s cost is a lot lower, most likely. Also, this would be a 3.4 f lat six, not a V6.

Yeah, there can always be hidden damage but I agree, I would be a lot more worried about one that had heavy damage near the engine/exhaust

Understood on the flat six. Seller doesn’t, however.

The door would have been  cut by the body shop who was assessing the car before it was totaled.
